Patrick Rodgers seized control of the leaderboard on Friday, firing a masterful second round to reach 9-under-par and claim the 36-hole lead. While McIlroy remained in the hunt with steady play, Rodgers separated himself with an aggressive approach, navigating Riviera's back nine with a flurry of birdies.

He was joined at the top of the leaderboard by Scottie Scheffler, who produced a stunning turnaround. After starting the tournament near the bottom of the field with a career-worst 75, Scheffler roared back with a bogey-free 63, vaulting himself back into the top five and revitalizing his quest for a 20th consecutive top-10 finish.

The projected cut line loomed large throughout the afternoon, eventually settling at 3-over-par. This claimed several high-profile victims, including former champion Jason Day and Keegan Bradley, who both finished at 4-over.

Meanwhile, the lead pack remains tightly bunched heading into the weekend, with Patrick Cantlay, Tommy Fleetwood, and Rory McIlroy all within two shots of the lead. The stage is now set for a "Moving Day" showdown at Hogan's Alley, where the firming conditions are expected to favor the elite ball-strikers who can handle the afternoon's predictable ocean breeze.
