Gary Woodland surged to the top of the leaderboard at the Texas Children's Houston Open, carding a spectacular 7-under 63 to reach 13-under par for the tournament. Woodland’s round was a vintage display of "power golf," highlighted by three straight birdies to close out his day.
Despite missing the fairway on the final two holes, the former U.S. Open champion showcased a "silky" touch around the greens to save par and establish a multi-stroke cushion heading into the weekend.
The leaderboard saw significant movement as international stars climbed the rankings. Nicolai Højgaard sits in solo second at 11-under after a brilliant 62, while defending champion Min Woo Lee moved into a tie for third at 10-under with a clinical 63 of his own.
Other notable performers included Jason Day and Sam Stevens, who both reached the 10-under mark to stay firmly in the hunt. The cut eventually fell at 2-under par, claiming several big names including Will Zalatoris and J.T.
