Singapore Round 1

The opening round at Sentosa concluded with Joaquin Niemann and Lee Westwood sharing a piece of the lead after both carded blistering rounds of 10-under par. The strategic narrative of the day was defined by the veteran Westwood’s surgical iron play and Niemann’s aggressive approach to the par-5s, both of which carved through the field to set a record-matching pace.

The primary hurdle for many was the rising heat index, which saw several teams struggle to maintain momentum during the final three holes of the shotgun rotation. Following closely in a tie for third at 9-under par are Bryson DeChambeau and Wild Card entry Richard T.

Lee, the latter of whom delighted the local gallery with a bogey-free performance. Tactically, the Crushers GC and Torque GC have positioned themselves at the top of the team leaderboard, while the heavy favorites Legion XIII sit just three shots back.

A notable highlight of the day was Jon Rahm’s eagle on the 18th, which moved him to 7-under and kept him firmly in the hunt for his fourth consecutive top-five finish this season.
