Can Öncü proved he had fully recovered from his Superpole incident by setting the fastest time in the Saturday Warm Up on March 28, 2026. Öncü’s objective was to re-establish himself as the man to beat, and he achieved a 1:42.894 on his final flying lap.
His Ten Kate Yamaha looked exceptionally planted through the technical middle sector, suggesting he has found the ideal setup for the race's heavy braking zones. The session was a showcase of the high-speed parity expected for Race 1.
Jaume Masia secured second place, trailing the Turkish rider by a mere 0.082 seconds, while the ZXMOTO of Valentin Debise rounded out the top three. Albert Arenas and Lucas Mahias completed the top five, with the entire group separated by less than four-tenths of a second.
The session was briefly interrupted by a yellow flag when Tom Booth-Amos ran wide at Turn 1, but he managed to avoid a crash. With the top riders so closely matched, the Warm Up results set the stage for a classic Portimão slipstream battle in the afternoon's opening feature race.
