Cristobal Lorente etched his name into the world title picture by securing a hard-fought split decision victory over Nathaniel Collins. Lorente’s primary objective was to overcome the hostile Glasgow atmosphere and a mid-fight crisis to claim the WBC Silver title.
Despite being knocked down in the sixth round by a crisp Collins counter-punch, Lorente demonstrated remarkable resilience, rallying in the championship rounds to outwork the Scotsman. The scorecards reflected the competitive nature of the contest: two judges scored the fight 115-112 for Lorente, while the third saw it 116-111 for Collins.
The fight was a tactical seesaw; Collins found success early with his jab and the aforementioned knockdown, but he appeared to tire under Lorente’s suffocating pressure in the final third of the match. According to unofficial statistics, the Spaniard’s superior volume in the 11th and 12th rounds proved the difference-maker.
With this victory, Lorente moves to 21-0-3 and secures his position as the mandatory challenger for the WBC featherweight crown, while Collins suffers the first defeat of his professional career.
