United StatesSeason 2026Round 19
Ryan Garcia delivered the most complete performance of his career, outclassing Mario Barrios over twelve rounds to become the new WBC welterweight champion. From the opening bell, Garcia’s speed advantage was overwhelming; he stunned the champion within the first 30 seconds, dropping Barrios with a sharp right hand that set a dominant tone for the rest of the afternoon.
Barrios, showing the trademark resilience that earned him the "El Azteca" moniker, recovered from the early knockdown and spent the middle rounds trying to close the distance and work Garcia's body. However, Garcia’s improved footwork and defensive discipline—marks of his recent camp—kept him out of danger.
As the fight progressed into the championship rounds, Garcia began to pick Barrios apart with lead left hooks and straight rights, leaving the champion with significant swelling around both eyes. The judges’ scorecards reflected a near-shutout for the challenger: 120-107, 119-108, and 118-109.
