Report

Nick Cassidy etched his name into the history books by claiming the first-ever Julius Baer Pole Position at the Madrid E-Prix. In a high-stakes Final Duel, Cassidy defeated Mahindra’s Nyck de Vries with a lap time of 1:37.141, besting the Dutchman by 0.266 seconds.

The result marked a significant milestone for Citroën Racing, securing both their first pole and their first front-row start in the championship. Cassidy’s path to the top was a masterclass in composure, as he navigated a damp track that saw many of his rivals falter.

The Duel stages were defined by mistakes from several championship contenders. Nyck de Vries reached the final after Antonio Félix da Costa struggled with grip in their semi-final, while Nick Cassidy advanced after Norman Nato skidded wide into the gravel during their head-to-head.

Earlier, reigning champion Oliver Rowland saw his chances vanish with a spin at Turn 3 during the quarter-finals. Despite the challenging conditions, Pascal Wehrlein managed to salvage sixth on the grid, while Pepe Martí thrilled local fans by qualifying on the sixth row for his home debut.
