      Report

Carlos Alcaraz and Jakub Mensik closed Day 1 of the 2026 Laver Cup in commanding fashion, defeating Alexander Bublik and Taylor Fritz 6-4, 6-4 to give Team Europe a 3-1 lead. The European pair combined Alcaraz’s speed and improvisation with Mensik’s power and serving, finding the decisive breaks in each set and maintaining control through the key points.

Bublik, playing his second match of the evening, and Fritz produced flashes of quality but were unable to create enough sustained pressure on the European service games. After one hour and 27 minutes, Alcaraz and Mensik completed a straight-sets victory that capped a strong opening day for Team Europe and gave captain Yannick Noah a two-point advantage heading into Saturday.
